Pointe au Baril Community
Residents - History of the Archipelago

Pointe au Baril is a small village situated in the heart of the famed 30,000 islands on the eastern shore of spectacular Georgian Bay.

The permanent population of Pointe au Baril is about 200 to 250 people and increases to a summer high of over 8,000.  Pointe au Baril is the host and supply centre for the many thousands of seasonal island residents who have made this paradise a fundamental part of their lives, often for four and five generations.

Pointe au Baril is a four-season destination community, with boating, camping, sport fishing, snowmobiling and the world class beauty of Georgian Bay attracting vacationers from around the world.  Once in Pointe au Baril, visitors are deeply touched by the magical environment, honoured as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
