Hours of Operation

The Wharf is staffed 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, beginning on the Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend in May to the Monday of the Labour Day weekend in September.  Between Labour Day and Thanksgiving Monday, the Wharf is staffed 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Mondays and Fridays. Washroom facilities are open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm May to Thanksgiving Monday.

The Pointe au Baril Wharf and public docks are located at the head of the Pointe au Baril Station harbour on South Shore Road.  This waterfront area underwent a major renewal in 2010 – 2012 with the construction of a new building housing public washrooms and new public docking facilities.

A hardware store, gas station, liquor store, convenience stores, fast food restaurant, fishing supply and post office are all located within a short walking distance of the Pointe au Baril Wharf.  The Pointe au Baril Nursing Station is also located in Pointe au Baril Station and has its own dock access.

The Pointe au Baril transfer station is located adjacent to the Wharf for use by Archipelago residents.  Please note that a Waste Disposal Card must be shown to the attendant to confirm that you are a Township resident.

Temporary Dockage

Two floating docks are available for the convenience of transient boaters and cottagers when visiting Pointe au Baril Station.  One dock is dedicated for use by Archipelago residents to drop off waste and recycling at the transfer station.

Boats may only remain docked for a period of two hours for these purposes, to ensure access to all those wishing to visit Pointe au Baril Station. Boats that exceed the 2-hour time period may be secured by chain to the dock and charged a fee of $75.00 which must be paid before the chain is removed.

Vehicle Parking

Vehicles are permitted to park temporarily in the identified area along the Wharf for the purpose of loading and unloading.  Parking shall not exceed 20 minutes.  Vehicles found parked unattended in the loading area will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.  Please note that there are no public parking lots in Pointe au Baril.

Overnight Dockage

The Pointe au Baril Wharf provides overnight dockage on a first-come, first-serve basis for approximately 4 boats beginning Friday of the Victoria Day weekend in May to the Wednesday following Labour Day weekend in September.  The maximum size vessel the dock can accommodate is 30 feet in length with a draft of 3 feet or less. The dock cannot accommodate sailboats. Boaters should consult their navigational charts to check water depths, keeping in mind that Georgian Bay water levels fluctuate.

Please note that the Township does not take reservations.  Visitors may use Channel 68 on VHF radio to inquire as to whether a space is available. There is no hydro and no potable drinking water at the Wharf.

The rate for overnight dockage is 55 cents per foot or $1.70 per metre of boat length.  Overnight users are limited to a one night stay and must depart by 10:00 a.m. the following morning.

Pump-Out Facilities

Sewage pump-outs are available 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily commencing Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend in May to the Monday of Labour Day weekend in September.  The pump-out fee is $25.00 per boat.

Pump-outs after Labour Day weekend up to and including the Thanksgiving Day weekend, are available by appointment only by calling the Township office at 705-746-4243.  Appointments will be at the convenience of the Public Works Department.

Potable Water

A free drinking water filling station is available 24/7 outside the Pointe au Baril Community Centre (70 South Shore Road), located on the side of the wall facing the parking lot.

We ask that you immediately call our office at (705) 746-4243 (or the Public Works Emergency Hotline at 1-800-460-5736 outside regular hours) if by any chance you should find the water is cloudy or detect an odour.

Enforcement

The Pointe au Baril Wharf area is equipped with video surveillance.  Any person contravening any section of By-law 15-31, being a by-law to regulate the Pointe au Baril Wharf, is guilty of an offence and will be subject to enforcement action.  Please report any abuse by contacting the Township’s By-law Enforcement Department.
