History of the Pointe Au Baril and Area Nursing Station
The Pointe Au Baril and Area Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic was initiated in the 1980’s by the Pointe Au Baril Lions Club due to the lack of services in the area. They worked tirelessly to get funding, raise funds and work with all their community partners to establish the service, as well as, acquire the property, build the building and partner with the Provincial government, (Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Under-Serviced Area Program) to provide the nursing services to this small community.
With the support of the Township of The Archipelago, the former Parry Sound District Hospital (now WPSHC), Medical Associates and the local community and the Islanders' Association, the Nursing Station first opened its doors in August of 1985.
After more than 30 years, a new nursing station was constructed and became operational in 2017. The new facility is more accessible and will better serve all of its patients and their families. The new structure also serves as an ambulance base with an attached ambulance garage.
The Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and is operated and managed by the West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC).
